Biographical Information

Life Summary

First eleven years of my life spent in Patan area. When we moved to Bardiya, we went byroad to Birgunj and went through India by train from Raksoul to Katarniyaghat bordering to Bardiya. The life was quite different from Kathmandu. Lots of rice field, widen cart, wild bore, deer, big fishes to eat from Karnali (geruwa) river. It was fun but I had to move to Nepalgunj for study as there was no high school nearby my village. I studied in Narayan High school in grade eight and passed my SLC from there. Then I joined in science faculty in Mahendra Multiple Collage, Nepalgunj. There was no road between from my village to Nepalgunj, we had to travel through India, and when my father asked me to go to Kathmandu to apply for health assistant course, I travelled through India to Bhairahawa, and from bhairahawa to Pokhara and Kathmandu. It took me three days to reach to Kathmandu. I completed my HA course and joined government in 2034. I served mostly in western part of the country from Dhading to Kanchanpur district. Most of my time, I spent in health post/ PHCC and sometime district hospital. After ten years of services, I saw many of our colleagues, studying higher studies, I thought I also should to at my personal future. Then I tried to stay in Kathmandu and applied for further study in IOM and also did Bachelor of Commerce and studying Master of Commerce. My colleagues suggested to apply for BPH and got opportunity in 2046. Completed BPH in 2048 and waiting for appointment, then temporarily sent me to Surkhet to establish MCHW training center with no fund. After three months, I came back to Kathmandu and waited for fund. I was frustrated and looking for job externally. I came in contact to ADRA Nepal, I took three months leave and worked in ADRA Nepal in Kathmandu and working in a Child Survival project in Banepa. They were very much impressed with my work. They offered me good position, salary and promised for further study in a year. That was hard decision for me to leave government job. I decided to leave government job and joined ADRA as a regular staff. The project I was in-charge moved smoothly in close coordination with the government. I went to Israel for MPH and I am the first BPH student accepted for MPH course in Israel. Our Prof. Yogendra Pradhanang was excited and invited me in IOM and said that our BPH course is well recognized by the University abroad. I worked in ADRA Nepal as Health Program Director for six years, then moved to UNICEF in 2056 in Decentralized Program for Children and Women, and then moved to HIV and adolescent health program, for project officer to health program specialist. I retired from UNICEF on February 2022 (Magh 2079). I feel I have contributed in pilot study of CHL (Community Health Leader) program in Dhading and reported recommending female during piloting of community health volunteer (that time called community health leader - CHL) program when I was in Dhading district. I have contributed in piloting and expanding community based Prevention of Mother-to-Child Transmission of HIV in the country and mainstreaming in the system, and also initiation of child and adolescent mental health program in the country. My wife is from Nursing background and worked in hospitals and development agencies and her last job was in WHO Nepal.

Childhood

Borne at Dhalachhen, Sundhara, Lalitpur Nepal. Moved to Bardiya district when I was 12 years old. Studied in Nepalgunj as there was no high school near by my village. Completed SLC and studied intermediate of science in Nepalgunj and then joined Health Assistant course in Institute of Medicine in Maharajgunj, Kathmandu in 2032. I was football player and body builder when I was at high school. I was weak in math and my math teacher was good and very strict, he punished me many times in the class. As I was a good football player at school, he helped me providing extra classes at his home. I improved my math from that time.

Family Status Summary

I am the only son from my mother. I have two brothers and two sisters from my step mother. we all grew up in Bardiya and Nepalgunj. After my job, I supported my brothers for their study in Kathmandu. Now they are well settled, one is in Australia and another on in Kathmandu. My sisters are also well settled. I am married with one daughter. I worked in government for 13 years, 7 years in ADRA Nepal and 23 years in UNICEF. At present, we both (my wife and me) are retired and daughter is studying in USA. We live in ANFA Bodhigram road behind Nepal Olympic Committee, between Satdobato - Gwarko Ringroad area.

Social Work

Life member (Nepal Red Cross Society), supported flood victims in Rajapur, Bardiya in 2040 BS. Supported injured people in Patan area in 2072 BS during the mega-earthquake in Nepal. Currently, I am engaged in the social work in my locality involving in community level committees.

Retired Life Summary

Now we have more leisure time, no deadlines, enjoying our time on ritual activities, social gathering, social work, and so on.

Current Living Status

After serving over 40 years of services in government, INGO and UN, now more time spent for family. Life is well settled only the problem is children are out of country, husband and wife supporting each other. Only worry is whether our children will be with us at the end of our life and when we are unable to support each other.
